Our Church
South Bay Abundant Life Church began in the Spring of 2003, under the leadership of Pastor Leslie Carl Smith.
Pastor Smith’s goal was to lead a church with the specific purpose of making disciples for Jesus Christ. He delighted in teaching the word of God and sharing the gospel. He wanted to train people to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with others. He wanted the church to share the Gospel in love and to fulfill the great commission of Christ (Matthew 28:18-20). His desire was to see a church where lives were transformed to the image of Christ regardless of someone’s past or current situation.
Initially, the church met at the homes of various members. In August 2003, the church began to meet at Immanuel Baptist Church, located at 503 East 220th St in Carson, CA.
In November 2004, South Bay Abundant Life Church relocated to its current location at 2679 East Carson St. in Long Beach, CA, home of Ebenezer Baptist Church.
Unfortunately, On May 8, 2007, Pastor Smith went home to be with the Lord.
In 2008, the church elected Pastor Barry Hughey as Interim Pastor; he served until April 2009. Then, the church selected Pastor Steven Robinson who was Senior Pastor until March 2012.
In January 2013, Pastor Jerome Vincent Carter became the Senior Pastor of South Bay Abundant Life Church.
